Maintaining a plant-based diet, and an overall healthy lifestyle, requires effort. I spend a lot of time researching ingredients, knowing where my food comes from and how my actions impact the environment. Simply because I care.
That’s why when I found out about Hungryroot a little over a year ago, I was immediately intrigued. Hungryroot is a service that delivers nutritious, wholesome and vegan food directly to your doorstep. After just a weeks of trying their meals, from the delicately flavored, pleasantly sweetened Chickpea Cookie Dough to the wholesome and savory Sweet Potato Mac’n Cheese, I (and my better half!) were completely in love with Hungryroot.
It wasn’t just that the food was nutritious and tasted amazing, it was also that it made my life more efficient and flexible. As you know, I love cooking and coming up with my own recipes, but I’m also limited on time (between my full-time job, the podcast, running, meditating, planning retreats, and other side projects!). All of their recipes can be prepped in under 10 minutes and make for perfect quick dinners or easy lunches to take to work.
A few months ago Hungryroot announced that they would be taking a short hiatus in order to redo their manufacturing and delivery operations. You can probably imagine that that was pretty disappointing to me… I did a little digging and learned that sales grew so fast the year before, they couldn’t keep up with the demand! I guess that’s a good problem to have 😉 Apparently, they could have continued shipping but didn’t want to risk their reputation of delivering high quality and nutritious ingredients. Rather than aiming for sales, Hungryroot elected to redo their entire manufacturing process to stay true to their company mission – which is to create healthy foods that people crave.
Anyway, exciting news: last week I got an email from Hungryroot that they are finally back! Yay! I tried out some of their new foods (see pictures in this post) this past weekend and I’m in love! The butternut squash fries with cashew cheese are amazing (the cashew cheese is improved from their old version and now totally oil free!!). I also loved the banana bread overnight oats – dessert for breakfast 😉 Oh and they still have the chickpea cookie dough and the black bean brownie batter – thank God! I would definitely recommend to check them out and sign up for one of their boxes. Can’t wait to hear what you think!
