Oats are amazing because they are high in fiber, provide wonderful energy and they are super easy to digest. They taste great in cookies and granola bars but are also delicious in old fashioned oatmeal. As a matter of fact, oatmeal is one of my favorite breakfast foods because I love how comforting it’s warmth and smell is to me. There are one million ways to eat your oatmeal so have a look at 2 of my favorite ones. But first, here is a simple recipe of how to cook your oats and then you can customize them from there:
Makes 2 servings, 10-15minutes
- In a pot, bring 1 cup of oats with 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Let cook down on low heat for about 10 minutes until thick and creamy.
- Add 1 teaspoon of maple syrup and fresh fruit (I love mango and banana on my oats).
This is a fruity, lighter version to eat your oatmeal. Sometimes I also like to add some cashew milk to make it a bit creamier. It’s a great breakfast that provides your with lots of healthy carbs for the day.
- Add 1 tbsp of chopped toasted almonds, 1 tsp of almond butter and 1 tsp of dried fruit jam (this one has some white wine and is absolutely delicious).
The almonds and almond butter make it a little bit heartier and higher in (good) fats which creates a more substantial breakfast. Great after a long run or workout to fuel up.
